Links and Resources

These are links to various sites on the web that I have found useful. If you have taken a class with me - I may have referred you to one or more of these links.  I told you they were on my website if you lost them!

All these links open in a new browser window.

Lampworking Community - Connect with other lampworkers.

  • Mailing List: Toronto Lampworkers - be notified of upcoming dinner get togethers, special classes, etc.
  • Online Forum: Canadian Lampworkers - an online forum with a focus on the Canadian outlook. Check out the monthly show and tell thread.
  • Online Forum: Wet Canvas - another excellent resource - select the "Glass Arts" Forums, and the Glass Works Technical Forum in particular. This is an extremely high volume forum - if you can keep up with the posts here - you are not making enough beads.
  • There are plenty of other forums too: Hot Glass, associated with Glass Line Magazine, Lampwork Etc. , and more besides. I just don't have time to keep up with them all.
  • The International Society of Glass Beadmakers. Who knew? Before you got bitten by the glass bug, that is. Now, it seems obvious. They have an annual conference. Check it out.
  • Setting up a studio? Read about Ventilation. Get the scoop on protective eyewear.

Sources, Resources, for Lampworking Supplies.

  • Nortel Manufacturing - this is my primary source for supplies. Glass, silver foil, tools, torches, kilns, books - you name it. Ask for Jean - tell her I sent you. If they don't carry it - try asking.
  • Got Lauscha? Get yours from Grace, the LauschaLady. She has a full line of Double Helix too (a high-silver content glass that produces some amazing colours.)
  • If you are on the West Coast and need stuff, give a call to Andrighetti Glassworks.

As you get more advanced

  • Cubic Zirconias - I get them here - Pehnec Gems. I personally can't tell the difference between their White A grade and AAAAA grade. The A grade is stunning. Check out their specials page - you might get a bargain on an odd size lot. BTW - this is a good sources for CZ's for Metal Clay use too. For use in lampwork beads, go with the 2 mm or smaller.
  • Want to display your beads? Of course you do - check out this Lampwork Bead Display.
  • And, of course beadFX - which is where I teach lampworking (making glass beads). You can also rent studio time there.
  • Table Top Studios You've made the beads - now you want to take pictures. Excellent, excellent advice on photographing beads and jewelry here.
  • Beading Times (e-zine) Read their monthly lampworker interview.
  • The Flow Magazine (quarterly magazine devoted to lampworking) Subscribe - show your support. Read the tutorials, get better - submit your own articles. Seriously.
